About the JITONA Company
The plant in Soběslav produces RTA furniture
JITONA a.s. occupies a significant position on the European furniture market. It is the largest Czech furniture manufacturer and exporter. It produces furniture for:
-
Ready-to-assembly furniture
- Cabinet making
The business activities aim in particular at export, which accounts for 96 per cent of the company's sales. The most significant export countries are Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria and Denmark. The company's total sales exceed CZK 1.2 billion. JITONA a.s. employs 840 people in its three production plants. It is a genuine Czech company with a long tradition. JITONA a.s. continues the tradition of the furniture companies Tusculum Rousínov and Spojené umělecko průmyslové (UP) závody Brno (the Joint Artistic and Industrial Plants, Brno), established in 1920. The extraordinary position of the predecessors of the modern-day JITONA company is supported by the fact that the Spojené umělecko průmyslové závody was the largest furniture manufacturer in Europe in 1937. The history of JITONA a.s. itself dates back to 1951 when small furniture manufacturers from Southern Bohemia were united into a state-owned enterprise called “Jihočeská továrna nábytku” (Southern Bohemia Furniture Plant) that carried on the more than one-hundred-year history of furniture production in this region.
After 1989, the company passed through a privatization process that brought a significant change in management. The entry of
the Expandia company as the majority shareholder in 1993 and the subsequent commencement of the essential restructuring process represent a significant milestone. Its objective was to create a modern, efficiently working manufacturing company. Within this process, the number of production plants was reduced and the company started strategic orientation on cooperation with the world's largest retail furniture chain, the Swedish company IKEA. The development of this cooperation is so dynamic that JITONA a.s. is currently one of the five largest suppliers of veneered furniture for IKEA in Europe and is even the sole manufacturer of some of the product ranges worldwide.
At present, the production is concentrated in three plants. The Soběslav plant manufactures joint veneer plates for the entire company and the veneered and laminated product lines. The Klatovy plant is the most modern plant in terms of technology. The mass production of the ready-to-assemble veneered lines is concentrated here. The production of solid-wood and partially solid-wood bedrooms is concentrated in the Třebíč plant. The production organization is aimed at the maximum efficiency and use of the latest technology is an indispensable prerequisite for success in this market segment.
